Younger Than Jesus, April 8 – July 5
The New Museum’s first edition of their new signature triennial, “The Generational” features fifty artists from twenty-five countries, all whom are under the age of thirty-three. The exhibition aims to examine the visual culture that Generation Y or Generation Me has created to date. The exhibition will span mediums and encompass painting, drawing, photography, film, animation, performance, installation, dance, Internet-based works, and video games. The Quick and the Dead, April 25 to Sept. 27
Featuring 90 works in a range of media by 53 international artists, this exhibition explores the legacy and meaning of conceptual art. This show cleverly pushes conceptual art beyond its traditional boundaries. The Quick and the Dead juxtaposes a core group of works from the 1960s and 1970s with more recent examples that might only loosely qualify as conceptual, including new works made for the exhibition and a number that have not been previously shown. Dan Graham: Beyond, through May 25
The art of Dan Graham has become increasingly important in the development of contemporary art since the 1960 ‘s – from the rise of minimalism, conceptualism, and video and performance art to explorations of architecture and the culture of rock and roll. This exhibition is the first North American retrospective of Graham’s work and brings together photographs, film and video, architectural models, conceptual projects, drawings and prints, and writings from the 1960s to the present. Dawoud Bey, Class Pictures: Photographs, April 16, 2009—July 12
High School is a critical time for kids, a time when they discover themselves and the society in which the live. For this exhibition, the artist photographed forty students to capture what it’s like in today’s high schools. The photographs are accompanied by text about and written by the students.
